Congratulations! You are a Columbia Insurance Agency customer and have free time that otherwise would have been spent on insurance affairs. So, the question now is, what are you going to do with all this free time?
Now that October is over and the tourists have dispersed, Salem is a great place to visit. The quaint, New England town has cute shops and great bars, a small movie theater and a lot of history.
One great place to check out is the Gulu-Gulu Café. For those looking for a more bohemian vibe this is where you want to be. During the day it is home to the latte drinkers and college students, enjoying a good book on one of the couches or typing away on their computers. Regulars filter in and out, chatting with one another and the staff, creating a very welcoming and cheery feel. The staff itself is young and hip, and very casual. Everyone working at the café seems to be genuine friends and the café reflects that attitude. The walls are covered in local art; each month featuring a new artist, adding a fun, fresh element. During the warmer days there is a patio which welcomes our furrier friends, and the staff even brings water for the pets! The owners themselves are animal lovers, obvious by the café’s mascots Jack and Charlie, their own Jack Terrier and Pug. Keep an eye out for them during the summer!
At night the cafe atmosphere changes to a bar one, with its ever-changing, eclectic selection of beers. The wide variety is for the adventurous beer lovers. Beers from all over the world find themselves at the Gulu. Belgians, IPA’s, stouts; the Gulu has them all. Wednesday through Saturday nights feature live music. For those who are musically talented Wednesdays are Open Mic Night, a very popular amateur event. As in the case of Thursday to Saturday nights the featured music varies; one night you may hear one woman playing the harp, the next a full fledged alternative band. The food is a diverse mix of paninis and wraps, most that you have never seen on any other menu (Don’t fret our allergy suffering friends; the café has both gluten-free wraps and soy milk!) But the star is the crepes, both sweet and savory. Try the strawberry nutella crepe it’s a must!
The Gulu-Gulu Café is an all around relaxed and interesting place!
